Blackbird

I put pen to paper to honour your essence

But the words will never do you justice

I cry the tears of a love-drunk poet

But the sorrow will only carry me so far

On the hour, the clock tower chimes

And the blackbirds sing your name

Just yesterday my heart was full

Tomorrow it will surely burst its banks

The sweet, floral scent of being and

The optimistic, steady flow of time

I hope you’re still here in the morning

And together we’ll watch the sunshine
